Wednesday Writing: The Writing Tag

I have looked all over the web and I cannot find a writing ‘tag’. I am not fond of many tags but I feel there should be a tag for writing, so I made one up. Just bear in mind that I have composed it so I can be used by other writers if they so choose to use it.

1.       Who is your favourite author?
Michael Morpurgo and the Bronte sisters

2.       Are you working on a piece now?
Yes, it is a Christmas special which will be released on Christmas Eve. I have finished it but I am editing it to make it perfect.....almost. It is my online ‘Christmas present’ to you.

3.       Your favourite novel is.....
Jane Eyre

4.       Why?
Jane is a remarkable woman who was a force to we reckoned with, she was not an average Victorian woman. She was both graceful and intelligent.

5.       What  is your favourite poem?
Come on, come back – By Stevie Smith

6.       Favourite blogger
You should know that by now; Ruth Crilly – A Model Recommends

7.       What is the worst book you have ever read?
I hate to say it but Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys. I only read it the other week and it was a really let down; I loved Jane Eyre, and this was a supposed ‘prequel’ and it was terrible.

8.       Who is your favourite play writer
Oscar Wilde without a doubt! His plays are brilliant with such character and humour

9.       Why do you like to write?
I like to write because I it a form of art. As a terrible drawer/ painter/ sewer/ etc. I had to find something which I could class as an art, because I believe everyone is creative in some way, shape and form. Down to the core; I love expressing myself through words because words are one of the most powerful defences man can use.

10.   What inspires you to write?

People inspire me to write, many of the characters in my series Life Count; will be based on people who I know or have met, but also objects such as old books, antique perfume bottles, etc, which have their own forgotten story.

*If you do this tag; tweet me the link*

My Week in Photos: 1-8th December 2014

This week has been very hectic (as per usual). I hope you enjoyed my Wednesday Writing post though and I hope you shall like this one too.

Here are some hair products I have been loving

Here are some of my selected reads for this week, One thing to know about me is that I love reading the National Geographic magazine! I haven't quite finished Wuthering Heights, but I have Wide Sargasso Sea (book review anyone?).

Now for some festive fun. This candle smells so warm and inviting on a cold winters night and my advent calendar, well.....what can I say...

This is a lip liner which I have been wearing non-stop for the last 3 weeks, It has amazing colour 'pay off' and stays put all day!

This is how I spend about 95% of my time, who's with me?

And finally I shall leave you with this (lying around whilst I am working) to caption with what ever you want.

Hope you have a great week, and tweet me some of your festive fun!

Wednesday Writing: Innovation or Isolation?

The internet has been known since the mid 20th Century and has changed people's lives in how they work, communicate, think, live and work. The very first tweet was sent on March 21st 2006 by the founder of Twitter; Jack Dorsley. It received over 10 000 retweets and 9 000 favorites. This alone shows the global reaction to the idea of Twitter.

Originally Facebook was created for Harvard Collage students, it then became more popular and spread to a national scale (USA) and then to a global scale. Facebook passes 1.23 billion monthly active users, 945 million mobile users, and 757 million daily users. As part of the financial results for its fourth quarter, Facebook today announced a number of new milestones. The social network has now passed 1.23 billion monthly active users.

Looking at these social media sites alone, there is a common trend; accessibility. In the time we live in we are obsessed with being able to connect almost instantly; with the invention of 3G on mobile phones and something as quick as a retweet on Twitter. Communication is at its peak, however I do not believe for  moment that it has reached its full potential, take a look at this video.

However we need to look at both sides of the argument; is technology going too far? Some would say yes, people are being more and more open with what they post. This is a potential danger as the world is not getting kinder; sharing personal numbers, details and even images and videos.

Looking at a study by Pew Research, Internet Research on Teens and Social Media Privacy (not targeting this demographic; as I am in this category as well) the study has shown that 91% post a photo of themselves, up from 79% in 2006, 71% post their school name, up from 49%, 71% post the city or town where they live, up from 61%, 53% post their email address, up from 29% and 20% post their cell phone number, up from 2%.

Putting yourself out there with lost of personal details allows people to see into your life; of course people have a choice whether to do this or not. But people have to accept that with great things comes great responsibility (yes I just quoted Spiderman). The idea of it being isolating roots from people using it too much and so their social life, education and relationships suffer. That is when it becomes a real issue.

Overall facts and figures aside, my own opinion (this is where we get into the arty farty literature) is that the internet is amazing. We can interact with people on the the other side of the globe and we can express ourselves. There is no limitation to where the internet can take us, who we will meet and what we can discover. I do not for one minuet think that the internet is a isolating concept because if anything it is connecting people more and more. Globalisation (the spreading of ideas, making the world more connected) would have not developed as much if it was not for the creation of technology; one being the internet. It is when people blow it out of proportion and exploit it and others whilst using it, that is becomes a joke. Having a love for the interned does not mean it is your friend, it is dangerous. Words are as dangerous as actions, 1 word can speak 1 000 000 things.

What is your opinion?

A Poem

Red is blood
Red is fear
Red is what brings us here

Red is love
Red is courage
Red is all among the wreckage

Red is now
Red is then
Red is for all fighting men

Red is forever
Red is November

Red is what we will always remember

Wednesday Writing : Rouge in Love

I don't know why we fell in love, we just did. I was an intern in Paris and a was working for Elle Magazine in France, and had just came out of the YSL autumn show. The leaves has fallen and the air was crisp, and with that chilly mid-morning it had lead me to La Rouge for a coffee over a dabble with my article on inspiring people. I don't even know when he came in, I glanced up and he was there. And no it was not the cliche movie moment, I gave him a rather scornful loon and turned back to my pen and paper. Still stuck on my piece a hour on, I was presented with a hot chocolate and a 'Bonjour, Je m'apellee Alec', I carelessly looked up and he sat.

We met at La Rouge everyday for that next week, I felt some what alive with him. His hazel eyes like still hearth capturing every piece of me, my scars and smiles. He seemed so interested in what I had to say and wanted to know how I had got to Paris. So I told him about uni and my internship, and my dreams of being a fashion designer one day; and I showed him some of my designs. I had forgotten how to hurt and learnt how to live.

My article is almost complete (a year on), inspired by him. When I read this article it brings tears to my eyes, and I remember how he looked into them; not with just love but with hope. Alec believed in me when I didn't, he build me up and encouraged me. So that brings me to today; I am forever longing to be with him even though he is not around, but he is in a safer place and where he belongs. I know he is with my Grandfather in heaven and they are looking down on me. Alec's eyes told stories of their own and radiated God's pure light and love through them; he inspired me not because he was perfect but because he was real.

I still got to La Rouge and think of the times we shared, but I am not sad or depressed because he is still part of my life, but in a distant paradise where he belongs.

''Look into my eyes, eyes

Eyes are the windows to the soul

Look into my eyes, eyes

Oh you will know

There is no surprise, eyes

Because love is plain to see
Look into my eyes
Eyes''

*La Rouge is a short story of a girl who was in darkness, brought to life by a boy with light. She was taught how to love again and the love of God, through Alec. Not by a 'super christian' act, but just by the truth and warmth of his eyes*

Timeless Classics: Bags

In this blog post I shall be showing you a few contrasting classy bags from my collection hope you enjoy!

Here is my favorite vintage bag, it is a little white box bag; with a pretty bow detail, which makes is a feminine piece. It has an extended strap and it has a hard frame which gives it it's strong durable structure. The colour perfect for summer and it is like a little Tardus; I can fit so much in there!

However I am very sorry I cannot tell you where I got it from, as I brought it from a little Spanish shop a few years back, however have a little look around any charity shops, vintage stores, car boot sales/ yard sales, etc. You an be very surprised to what you can fin for much less!

This is another favorite, especially for the winter. It has a quilted texture to in and is a dark navy colour which can complete any outfit! The vintage flowery pattern adds much needed colour and detail to the bag. Again it a bag which you can fill to the brim, for a little bag it is very durable and sturdy which is unexpected

This bag is from Jack Wills from a collection ( which for the life of me I cannot remember!) about 2 years ago, and was £9 reduced from £18 + DEAL!

Last but defiantly not least, this is a beautiful bag which reminds me of a 1920's flapper girl bag, with its stunning detail and sparkle, I love it! The colour is just me as it is neutral; so it can be paired with anything, yet it a statement in itself without the risk of it 'blending in' too much. I would wear this to a wedding, night out or any special occasion, it is just to classy

I got this beauty actually yesterday (ahh reviewing an item I have only just fallen in love with) at Accessorize, by Monsoon; it was originally £15, but was reduced to £10. How could I say no.

LookBook : Alexa Chung

She is one of my style icons because of her effortless style and support of British fashion with a refreshing modern twist.

Alexa is wearing a beautiful tan trench coat accompanied with a striped white & navy jumper - dress, spotted black sheer tights and black round the ankle platforms. And to finish it off a mustard yellow checked scarf.

This without a doubt it my favourite dress Chung has ever worn as it is elegant yet quirky which she supports so frequently. The print on this dress is very vintage and girly, the spaghetti straps suits her delicate figure and the shoes gives the dress a fab contrast.

Picnic in the park anyone? My eyes are immediately drawn to the Chanel wicker basket bag which screams a British picnic (to me at least...). Again rocking the spotted sheer tights, shorts with a lace edge, a white blouse and a beautiful coat with ribbon detailing.

Timeless Classic: The Cat Eye

I am defiantly not a beauty expert or makeup artist, however there is defiantly something very charming and captivating about how a 'Cat Eye' can help shape and define one's eye. Whether it be with; gel, liquid, creme, or pencil eyeliner, or shadow, never the less it is very unique!

The cat eyeliner look came about in the 1960's, other well know as 'the golden age' which was supported by ladies such as Twiggy and Audrey Hepburn.

Examples:

My No.1 person who supports the cat eye must be Alexa Chung! She has such a distinctive 60's look which is fresh and complete without looking too polished and put together, which is why she can pull it off so well.

Dita Von Teese is another classic example of a timeless cat eye, however her eye differs to Alexa's as hers is accentuated at the outer corner with a deeper flick, making it more of a 'pin up girl' look. She complete's hers with a ruby red lip for the more glamorous look.

Lana Del Rey supports the cat eye in a way which differs to both Alexa and Dita, as hers is very thick and does not highlight the flick as much. This does not make it worse by far, as it creates a fullness on the eyes and defines her eyes beautifully! Here she has paired it with a natural lip colour which makes her eyes stand out even more.

Without a doubt Audrey Hepburn is the No.1 woman who is famously known for her captivating eyes. Supported by a strong brow and natural lips, this makes the perfect vintage look. The eyelinder is thin in the inside of her eye and then tapers out to the outer corner, and with the stronger brow makes her eyes to stand out and it creates an innocent look.

LookBook :The Duchess Of Cambridge

Here I have selected some of my favorite outfit's which Kate has worn, of course I love all her outfits but here a a few!

Alexander McQueen - Blue 'coat dress'

This beautiful aqua-cornflower blue dress has both practicality and grace . The collar adds a quirky yet understated charm to the piece, the belt accentuate's the Duchess's slender figure and finishes the dress off. The colour it's self if just breath taking and suites the Duchess's complexion magnificently! With the colour and collar paired together screams vintage in the most elegant way! The pleating at the back of the dress and the long pockets makes excellent detail, therefore no accessories are even needed, overall this outfit is stunning for daytime wear.

Alexander McQueen - Lavender Evening Dress

Here is my favorite dress which the Duchess has ever worn, it is classy yet youthful and in a beautiful powder pale purple brings elegance to a whole new level! The dimonte belt cinches in the waist brings a flattering effect to the dress and is an accessorize in it's self. The colour you would thing would wash anyone out, however the particular shade bring a brightening effect to the Duchess's complexion and is nothing which can be overlooked.

Reiss - Nude Bandage-Style Shola Dress

This dress is perfect for any time of day, the zig-zag pattern on the stomach of the dress adds again more simplistic detail to this slightly body-con dress. The shape of the dress suites the Duchess's perfectly as it is in lineament of her physique and paired with her black accessorizes makes it another perfect daytime outfit which is both flattering and stylish.

Zara Jacket and Wedges

Here we see the Duchess looking more casual, yet still smart. The navy jeans, jacket and wedges add a nautical vibe and paired with the white blouse creates the perfect smart yet sophisticated look. The wedges are an excellent choice as they are still smart yet are a more casual choice from the Duchess's classic L.K Bennett nude pumps which she favors. Overall this look is brilliant as we can see the Duchess in a more extemporaneous light.

Timeless Classic: Nude Flats

These shoes are one of my most loved and worn pair of shoes, purely because of their ability to be worn with any outfit of any colour. As a shorter person it is important to not cut off the ankle else it will shorten the length of your leg and therefore your overall appearance of height. These shade of shoes extend the length of your legs and also your over all height.

Sadly these are from New Look's season from last year, however I have found multiple dupes from lower price ranges to higher price ranges

The effortless class and chic look which nude flats bring to an outfit is unique yet timeless. The pointed characteristic of the pumps  (if you so choose to have pointed toe shoes) has an  emphasis the 60's inspired style and adds a quirky feature to your look.

With summer arriving these shoes will make a perfect fit into your wardrobe as they do not require a delicate hand with matching or co-coordinating outfits, as they are extremely versatile and one of my essential staples in my shoe collection. The can be dressed up and dressed down, weather you are wearing them to work or around the beach there will be surely a pair which meets the needs for both style and comfort.

Breakfast At Tiffany's - The Movie

'Breakfast At Tiffany's' is my favorite film of all time! I don't know what is is about it which draws it to me the most. This film is based on the 1958 novella Breakfast At Tiffany's  by Truman Capote, with the worlds classiest lady (Audrey Hepburn, co-starring George Peppard ) starring and with a location of New York 1961, it is a recipe for a blockbuster. Holly Golightly is a young attractive woman with childlike innocence and an adventurous attitude. She lives alone with 'no - named slob' 'Cat' in a classic New York apartment with no commitments and no desire to commit to 'anything'. Her fresh charm and fabulous style makes Holly Golightly seem perfect. A new neighbor Paul Varjak  is an aspiring writer who falls for Holly  almost instantly, moves in upstairs. After Holly's expensive collection of past dates and taste in men, will Holly's carefree lifestyle be changed?

Additional Information

Breakfast at Tiffany's was nominated for several Academy awards, winning Best Score for Henry Mancini and Best Song for Johnny Mercer's  "Moon River" -  Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi
 Blake Edwards
 Truman Capote
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Duration: 1hr 55mins
